John

June 2017

Since John began in September, he has been consistently bettering himself with no sign of slowing down. He took part in the nutrition challenge at OCF last Fall and followed it up with individual nutritional coaching until just recently. He has lost over 30 pounds and he isn’t done yet!

He decided to challenge himself outside of classes and signed up for OLY 101, which he just recently completed. His consistency in classes has not wavered since he started and he continues to always be a positive influence on other members, and a smiling face to have at his regular 4:30 class.

We are lucky to have him as a member and know that with his determination and hard work, his potential is endless. Great work John! Keep it up!

Get to know John!

1. When did you start CrossFit and why?
From the recommendation of my brother-in-law I started with the 21 for 21 group last September. I was out of shape at the time with a 6 month old baby at home, I knew I would need to do something to keep up with her in the future so I decided to give OCF a try.

2. What time of day do you come in?
I tend to stick to my 4:30 family at the gym, depending on my work schedule I may change it up, but 4:30 is my home.

3. What is one type of movement you hate and one you love?
I dislike pull ups, being a larger guy for most of my life I’ve never had an affinity for them, but hopefully I can get my first set soon. I love anything squat related, I’ve always had strong legs and enjoy using them greatly. I also really enjoyed the the OLY movements also.

4. Any big goal(s) set for the next year?
I want to get into the performance group and get my first strict pull up next year

5. Name an athlete that inspires you and why.  (Does not have to be a CrossFitter)
I honestly can’t name too many athletes I’m inspired by, but I am inspired by anyone who has the ability and drive to overcome hardships to reach a goal. Sometimes I’ll watch an OCF class and see everyone working hard, it makes me want to work harder each day I come in.

6. Tell us one fun fact about you.
Whenever I get the chance I like to get friends or family over to play board games or card games, I have a decent collection of them.

7. You were left on a deserted island.  What one food and thing (i.e. book, music player, etc…) would you want to be left with you?
I would want to have a knife and shaved ice. The knife for utility purposes, the shaved ice because well, why not.

8. How has CrossFit helped you in sports? Life?
Crossfit has helped me out in plenty of ways, I can run around and carry my daughter without too much difficulty, there isn’t much else I can ask for. Overall I’m a happier guy now because I’m not as self conscious about how I look now that I’m down 40 pounds from when I first started.

9. How have workouts changed for you over the years?
Over the years I’ve tried different workouts and diets and they each worked for a short while, crossfit is the one thing that’s stuck with me longer than anything else. I’m bettering myself physically and mentally and I’m having a good time along the way. For the first time I’m not dreading the idea of getting to the gym and working out, it’s what I look forward to doing each day.
